
Michael V. Coleman is a partner in Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell’s corporate department. His practice includes general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and corporate internal investigations. Mr. Coleman has served as counsel to a broad range of business organizations on a variety of legal matters, and has extensive experience in advising company directors and officers. He has played a lead role in a broad variety of transactions, including asset transfers, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings, and private equity transactions. Mr. Coleman also has substantial experience in government/business transactions and business litigation.
As the City Attorney for the City of Atlanta under former Mayor Maynard Jackson from 1990 to 1994, Mr. Coleman supervised a law department of approximately 35 lawyers and provided daily advice to the City Council and the Mayor. He has been involved in a number of high profile legal matters during his career, including serving as a principal attorney for the City of Atlanta during the negotiation of several agreements in connection with the 1996 Olympics, and representing Central Atlanta Progress in connection with the creation of the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (Downtown Ambassador Force).
Mr. Coleman also represented Turner Broadcasting System and the Atlanta Hawks in connection with the development and financing of Phillips Arena and represented the City of Atlanta in connection with the development and financing of Atlantic Station.
Mr. Coleman has published articles on general corporate law and Georgia securities law.
